Long-legged, mosquito-like insect with two clear wings
Adults: damp habitats with abundant vegetation; larvae: moist soil and decaying plants in forests; some live in water.
Some adults eat flower nectar. Larvae eat algae, detritus, and larvae of other insects.

Although craneflies look like giant mosquitoes, they do not bite. They do, however, eat mosquitoes.
